The three leading (and surprising!) reasons for fussy eating.

Starting your little one on solids can be an exciting and nerve-wracking experience. With so much information available online, it's understandable to feel overwhelmed. But don't worry, we're here to help!

Our Serene Start to Solids workshops provide valuable information and tips to support your journey. We want to support you so that you can help your little one develop a healthy relationship with food as they grow. Here are 3 of our favourite tips to support you and your little one on your journey.

3. Not giving your little one the chance to use their senses.

Allowing your baby to explore their food is a great way for them to use their senses and natural instincts when it comes to food. Let them touch, smell, and taste different textures and flavours.

2. Your anxiety around them starting solids.

Starting your little one on solids can make you feel anxious, especially if you have concerns around choking or if you don’t think your little one is eating 'enough’.

Your little one can pick up on your body language and how you are feeling, so if you are feeling unease it can lead to a tense, unpleasant and stressed experience for you both.

  1. The top leading cause of fussy eating….brace yourself.

The top leading cause of fussy eating is wiping your little one’s month whilst they are in the middle of eating.

Image yourself in your favourite restaurant and you're enjoying a delicious meal. You are minding your own business, when the restaurant server comes over to you with a cold wet wipe and rubs you all over your mouth. Shock..and yuk!

If this was to continue happening every time you went there your experience would become less and less enjoyable. Eventually you would insist on not eating at that restaurant again.

Remember, starting your little one on solids is a learning experience for both you and your baby. Take it slow, be patient, and try not to stress about the process. With the right information and approach, your little one will develop a healthy relationship with food and enjoy trying new things.

This is just a little snippet from our Serene Start to Solids workshop and we go into much more detail over the duration of the 2.5 hour workshop. If you would like to learn more, our next Serene Start to Solids Workshop in on Saturday 27th January in Moggerhanger. You can read more or book here.
